The Spirit in Action Flow Fund is a unique form of giving based on trust. The Fund is built from donations – small and large – that are sent to us to provide humanitarian aid and micro-grants as we travel.
We distribute this money in small grants ranging from $100 to $2,000 to people and grassroots projects we trust are doing beneficial work. No proposals, budgets, or evaluations are required. When possible, we ask recipients to tell us the story of how the funds have served their lives and work. We pass these stories on to the Fund’s contributors.
Contributors to the Spirit in Action Flow Fund trust us to represent their values, and to direct grants to benefit worthy individuals and organizations working at the grassroots level. This form of philanthropy reduces administrative costs to nearly zero, and allows funds to reach projects and people who would not normally be able to access them. We do not use any of the money raised for ourselves.
Being involved in small-scale, trust-based philanthropy has been a profound experience for us. We have learned the value of helping money flow to grassroots projects where a small amount can catalyze significant change. We have made hundreds of grants based on the integrity and talent of the recipients. Over the past ten years our grants have reached to Iraq, Lebanon, Syria, the West Bank, the Philippines, Thailand, Burma, Laos, Brazil, Costa Rica, China, Japan, and Darfur.
At this time most of our Spirit in Action Flow Fund grants are focused in the following areas:
- Aiding Iraqi refugees living in Syria and Jordan.
- Supporting grassroots development projects in Afghanistan.
Please Note:
Because the majority of our grants are made in foreign countries based on a direct heart-to-heart connection with the recipients, we do not accept requests for funding.
