Elias and Elizabeth’s Writings
•
These pages collect a variety of our writings over the past two decades, from reflections on our years of pilgrimage and social action to poetry and contemplations on the nature of reality and human identity. Here also are archives of our ongoing Letters from the Road.
LETTERS FROM THE ROAD
We have been writing these Letters since 2002 when we were in Iraq before the invasion. They are short essays that recount our experiences and impressions, and have been forwarded to thousands of people worldwide. They have been sent from Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan, Syria, Palestine, Israel, Thailand, Brazil, and Mexico.
REFLECTIONS ON SPIRIT IN ACTION
These short essays are a series of reflections we have written over the past decade on the congruence of spiritual recognition and outer action. They express how we have experienced the surprises of pilgrimage, and what we have learned about bearing witness to cultures, individuals, and societies very different from our own.
CONTEMPLATIONS ON THE OPEN PATH
These essays – written by Elias – explore aspects of recognizing and opening into our natural condition of clear awareness. They include subjects such as “The Art of Awakening,” “The Open Path,” “The Simple Fact of Being Aware Right Now,” and “Following Beauty.”
EARTH PRAYERS
Here you will find descriptions of our three anthologies of prayers and poetry from around the world: Earth Prayers (prayers from all traditions in honor of the Earth), Life Prayers (prayers from all traditions in celebration of the stages of human life), and Prayers for a Thousand Years (prayers and poetry, many written for this volume, as invocations at the beginning of the new millennium).
POETRY
Occasional poems by Elias – “A Prayer for September 11, 2001,” and “An Invocation for the Beginning of a Conference.”
